viral 3D advertising
Second Life offers unprecedented opportunities for interactivity and immersion. How are you going to engage your customers in the virtual world?
The Holodeck is Second Life’s viral 3D advertising medium. A Holodeck lets you store different 3D scenes in a single building, like a room that morphs into another room at the click of a button. And it can be transferred from one person to another.
Instead of building a static office in Second Life like everyone else does, why don't you GIVE people your office and let them pass it around to their friends? They in turn can give it to their friends, just like circulating an email ...

Scenes in the Holodeck can contain furniture, plants, animations, smoke, water; you name it. Current scenes include a campsite, a zen garden, a fashion catwalk, a theatre, a hot springs, a lunar surface, a treehouse and of course, bedrooms and living areas. The scenes shown on this page all exist inside a single-room 15 x 20m Holodeck.

why advertise in 3D?
Second Life is an interactive medium. To meaningfully engage with people in this space, businesses must facilitate interaction and this is what a Holodeck scene does.
The Holodeck is something the consumer can own and use. It can be designed to look any way you want (indoor/outdoor, underground/underwater/outer space) and it can be scripted to animate avatars any way you want. It can incorporate RSS feeds or links to web sites. But most important, it allows people to walk around it, meet in it, play in it and relate to a whole space, not just a two dimensional billboard or screen. In essence, what we are doing is giving people a branded entertainment venue in which they can socialise with others in real time.
This is about giving your product a 3D context. Not a bottle of wine, a five-star restaurant. Not a raincoat, a walk in the rain. Not a range of glassware, a shooting gallery.

distribution
You can distribute your company’s Holodeck as a stand alone building or use our existing network. At any one time there are between 50,000 and 70,000 people on-line in Second Life. There are currently over 150,000 Holodecks.
content
If your company makes bedsheets, we can advertise them by giving people beautiful bedrooms. If your company makes beer, let’s give them restaurants and bars. If your company is a bank, let’s give them a golf course …

updates
New scenes can be sent via an update mechanism to those who own a Holodeck, ie a new real-life product launch might trigger a new Second Life scene being sent to those who already own one of your Holodecks.
security
The Holodeck is not modifiable so the 3D advertising cannot be hacked or tampered with.
accountability
It is possible to monitor on-going uses of the Holodeck, providing feedback on the use and spread of the advertisement.
