retail holodeck - user guide
Overview
The Retail Holodeck lets you build scenes for display or sale in the Holodeck. If the people who own the Holodeck are the creators of the products, they can sell those products with any permissions.
Scenes are stored in the Holodeck Floor Panel. The Photo Panel is what the customer clicks to rez a new scene.
When you select a scene, it rezzes an invisible prim in the middle of the floor that holds information about the position of the objects. Once a scene is rezzed, make sure you don't move that prim or shift the scene in any way.
Build your scenes in the Production version and deploy them in as many Simple versions as you wish. You could do it all in a Production but then you'd be building in your display area which you might not want to do :)

Getting Started
Rez the crate, then Copy to Inventory. This will create a Production Retail Holodeck folder.
Rez the Holodeck, which will appear as the Floor Panel and then rez the Photo Panel. Unpack the Retail Address Script by rezzing it and dragging to your inventory. Then rez the Retail Label Script and click the voucher to redeem it. It will land in your scripts folder. You may want to drag it to your Production Retail Holodeck folder.
If you have problems rezzing the Address Script object rezz it in a scripts disabled zone.
In your inventory, find the scenes you just bought (in the Recent Items tab most likely) and drag them into the Content tab's window.
Make a SCENE
Lay out your products in the right positions and set next owner permissions. Put label scripts in each object, or if you're linking objects, just one in the root prim. Make the root prim the one closest the floor panel.
Move your Photo Panel into position, size it and texture it. Click the panel and it will rez a new crate on the Floor Panel.
Put the Retail Address Script in the crate and rename it whatever the scene is to be called in BOTH the NAME field and the DESCRIPTION field. We recommend always using Title Case.
Shift-select all objects except the crate, making a single object, then Take a Copy into inventory. Put the object back into the crate and Take the full crate. Now put the crate in the contents of the Floor Panel.
In the description field of the Photo Panel, use EXACTLY the same name as you used for the crate. CaSe SenSiTivE!
Tips
** The build area is 20m x 20m
** Make your first scene a practice one. Very simple with no more than three objects
** Phrynne Cannned of Domneth Designs has put together an EXCELLENT guide to linking efficiently in Holodeck builds. It's in the same folder as this User Guide.
Fixing problem scenes
If something has gone wrong with the scene and you need to completely re-make it you can leave all the objects where they are and delete the address script. Here's the quick way to do this:
Turn on transparency. Rez the scene and select the invisible prim that appears on the floor panel. Delete the address script in the Contents tab. You might need a couple of tries; the box is only there a few seconds.
After you've deleted the script, rez a new crate and remake the scene.
Textures
You can edit and modify the texture in the floor panel.
Prims
The prims in the particular scene you load will count towards your prim allotment. The inert scenes will not count.
