Creating Holodeck-friendly objects
Overview
The 2in1 combines an Interior Production Holodeck with an Exterior Production Holodeck. You control the rezzing of the rooms with the control panel on the wall. The green half rezzes the interior scenes and the blue half the exterior scenes. The notecards that control the menu are in the wall panel halves.
Scenes are stored in the floor panels; interior in the green, exterior in the blue.
When you select a scene, the Holodeck rezzes an invisible prim in the middle of the floor that holds information about the position of the objects. Once a scene is rezzed, make sure you don't move that prim or shift the scene in any way.
Common Mistake #1 People don't unpack the scripts first ...
The scripts you need are packaged in boxes so they don't interact with each other before you want them to. They are divided into exterior and interior scripts for the different scene types.
Rezz those objects and copy the scripts to your inventory. If you have problems rezzing the objects rezz them in a scripts disabled zone.
Common Mistake #2 Moving the panels ...
DO NOT de-link or move the floor panel and wall panel. If you need to move the holodeck, clear it first, then move the whole thing.

Access
The Exterior deck is set to Owner-only access. This is to prevent accidental simultaneous loading of scenes which will cause issues.
The Interior deck is also set to Owner-only but you can set it to one of your Groups. Right click the floor of the Holodeck and Edit. Go to the General tab (might have to hit the More button first) then click the Set button and choose the group.
Getting Started
Open the box, choose Copy to Inventory. Rez the footprint that corresponds to your block size. Locate it on your block so that the outer limits of the footprint are within your property boundaries. (You may need to choose Property Lines on the View menu ).
This is to make sure that the scenes you buy don't rez over the boundaries and upset the neighbours.
Drag the 2in1 into world so that it fits exactly on the green inner area. Now you can delete the footprint.
Make a SCENE
You can of course make as many scenes as you like for your own use. But also, if we approve your scenes, we can sell them on your behalf to owners of Holodecks.
Different kinds of scenes
a. Interior scenes; built using the green interior panel.
b. Exterior scenes; built using the blue exterior panel.
c. Exterior/Interior (Xin) scenes; built using the blue exterior panel. These can cover the whole footprint area shown in the templates.
If you're building to sell scenes, you have these choices:
Interior
Footprint: 17.89m deep by 14.75m wide
Prims: Up to you, if you keep it to less than 85 the scene will be usable by people on 512 blocks. Having said that, they account for only 20% of our market.
1024 Exterior
Maximum footprint: 29 x 30m.
Prims: 100
2048 Exterior
Maximum footprint: 49 x 30m.
Prims: 230
4096 Exterior
Maximum footprint: 49 x 49m.
Prims: 380
Custom Exterior
Footprints must conform to the above but it's up to you how many prims you use.
Footprints and the position of the interior decks are specified to make sure that people don't have to relocate their houses when they buy different Holodeck exteriors.
Permissions
If you intend selling content that you make in your Holodeck, be very, very careful about permissions. Everything in the scene, including scripts, must be sent to us Copy Mod Tran. Exception: scripts can be No Mod. When we get the scene, we will change it to Copy No Mod No Tran.
Note: If you have even one object in a scene that is somebody else's free content, you will not be able to sell that scene without their permission.
Making scenes for Holodecks
*BE CAREFUL SHARING HOLODECKS*
YOU as the purchaser will need to be the OWNER of all the content you put into the Holodeck. Do not deed your Holodeck to a group.
The interior build area is 17.89m deep by 14.75m wide.
If you're building exterior scenes, you can request Holodeck Building Templates from ITW. Make sure your interior walls are exactly right, otherwise paintings from interior scenes will hang in the air. If you're building in the 4096 template, make sure that the root prim of every linked set is within 20 metres of the floor panel. Don't put unlinked items outside that 20 metre radius.
*Make your first scene very simple with three or so objects*
First, put all your objects in position on the deck. Checking permissions as you go, drag the appropriate Label Script (interior/exterior) to each one. Careful! More than one label in an object will cause problems. If you link objects, put a label script in the root prim.
**Phrynne Cannned of Domneth Designs has put together an EXCELLENT guide to linking efficiently in Holodeck builds. If you are making scenes to sell, you would be crazy not to read it. It's in the same folder as this User Guide.
Click the New Crate button on the appropriate colored menu.
Name the crate that appears on the floor whatever you want to call the scene. Then drag an address script to the crate.
As soon as you do this you should receive a message in chat from each object saying 'Position Stored'. If you don't, delete the crate, check each object has a label script and re-do the New Crate step.
Shift-select all your objects (one multiple-selection, not as individual objects), right click and TAKE A COPY into inventory for ageing.
Drag them from inventory into the Contents tab of the crate. Now right click the full crate and choose TAKE, so that it goes back into your inventory.
Finally, right click the floor panel and choose Edit. If you're building an exterior scene, go into Edit Linked Parts and left click the blue half. Drag the crate to the contents tab, checking there are no crates in there with the same name.
You are now ready to put your scene on the menu; jump ahead to Naming Scenes for this.
**Skribe Forti has put together a video on basic building in a Holodeck.
Selling Scenes to Inside This World
There is no guarantee we will buy scenes but you can offer them to us for sale. Suggest you contact us after you have made one scene (or even before) so we can review your work.
If we think your quality and price are acceptable we will pay you 50% of the sales value on our premises and 33% if sold at someone else's.
When you've sold us five scenes you will then be eligible for Reseller status, which lets you sell holodecks and anyone else's scenes on commission. Commission on your own sales at your own location will be increased to 100%.
Sending Your Scene to Inside This World
Once we've okay'd the scene, we'll give you an approval number on a notecard. You'll need to fill in the notecard and take a snapshot of the scene.
Permissions for the next owner on your scene will need to be set to Copy Mod Tran. Scripts can be No Mod however.
Turn on transparency. Rez the scene and select the invisible prim that appears on the floor panel. Delete the address script in the Contents tab. You might need a couple of tries; the box is only there a few seconds. Then put the approval number we issued you in the Description field. Nearly there.
Now, here's the test for permissions which is OBLIGATORY. Deed the object to one of your groups or give it to an alt then look at the scene in your inventory to make sure that it has Copy permissions.
If you're clear, drop a copy into the inventory of Split Middle and Loki Clifton together with the approval notecard and the snapshot.
Warning: if something doesn't work in the scene, even if it's minor, we will send it back to you to fix. It is a matter of policy that we don't fix scenes for people; I'm sure you understand why we have to make that rule.
Installing New Scenes
First, hit the Clear button to empty your Holodeck. Right click and edit the floor of the Holodeck. Choose Edit Linked Parts then left click the appropriate colored floor panel. Choose the Content tab.
In your inventory, find the scene you just bought. If it's boxed, unpack it. Copy the name of the scene then drag the scene into the Content tab's window.
Re-do the menu notecard, read on ...
Naming Scenes
Right click the appropriate wall panel and click Edit, then in the Edit dialogue box tick Edit Linked Parts. Left click the appropriate colored panel then choose the Content tab. Double click the notecard called 'Menu' and paste in the scene name. When naming the buttons, remember you only have 11 letters per scene, including spaces.
The format is "button name:scene name". If you want to create a 'My Hot Tub' button and the name of the scene was Jacuzzi, you would write My Hot Tub:Jacuzzi. The name of the scene is CaSe SenSiTivE, if you don't get the capitals right it won't work. Watch out you don't accidentally put a space after the colon.
Any line starting with "//" is a comment; it doesn't affect the script.
Save the menu and allow 10 seconds before reloading the new scene.
The button positions are a little odd. They're just the limitations of the Second Life interface; nothing we can do about them ...
Moving things around/adding objects
*for the Interior Holodeck ...*
With a Production deck like yours, you can move things around and adding objects to a scene after you've bought it or created it.
A very good idea is to count the number of prims in the room to start with and calculate how many there will be in the new room. One of the tricky things is making sure you've got EVERYTHING selected when you take it onto inventory. If you know the number of prims you're supposed to have you won't get caught out.
So to start, clear the scene, then select New Crate from the menu. Now load the scene you want to amend and make your changes.
Drop a label script in any new objects and check permissions. Click the red button on the wall panel to reset the scene. (If there's no red button, click the frame). You should see 'Position stored' in chat. Drag an address script to the crate and rename it.
As before, drag your objects into inventory, then put them in the crate and Take the full crate into inventory. Then stash it in the floor panel, making sure to first delete any box in there with the same name.
*for the Exterior Deck...*
Same process as above but there is no Reset button. You'll have to shift-select all the objects in the scene, go to the tools menu and choose Reset Scripts in Selection.
Creating Holodeck-friendly objects
Holodeck-friendly objects can be used by other people who have Holodecks. They cannot be used in Simple or Demo Holodecks however.
Make sure the permissions for each object and any script within it are set to Copy. Put a Holodeck Label Script in each object.
You can sell these objects without paying us any commission.
If you are packaging your objects for sale, you may want to use the logo provided so people know it's Holodeck-friendly. The logo should be used as a frame on the full face of at least two sides of the cube.
Rezzing Range
Interior Holodeck: a 28 x 28 x 28m area.
Exterior Holodeck: a 50 x 50 x 50m area.
Remember that the height available will only be half the total rezzing range, eg for the Interior deck, 14m above the floor panel and 14m below.
Large-build holodecks are also available at an upgrade cost of 5,000L. This will allow up to 120m x 120m builds but because of the potential for interference to other decks, is only available to people who have used a Production Holodeck or 2in1 Holodeck for at least one month and (2) own and control the entire sim.
Prims
The prims in the particular scene you load will count towards your prim allotment. The inert scenes will not count.
Interference
Adjacent 2in1 Holodecks will not interfere with each other if each is centrally located on a 2048 or a 4096 block. However, adjacent 1024 blocks with 2in1 Holodecks WILL interfere with each other so our recommendation is to purchase a larger block or live next to people that think Holodecks are STUPID. We will not get involved in disputes between neighbours.
