What is a Holodeck?
A Holodeck stores Second Life scenes and lets you load them from a menu whenever you want. The old scene is cleared and the new one appears. Scenes can include any prim objects including furniture, pose balls and particle generators. The rooms shown on this page all exist inside a single-room 15 x 20m Holodeck.

Different kinds of Holodecks
The Demo Holodeck - free
This gives you six scenes and shows you how the Holodeck works. It doesn't let you add any scenes. You only have the free content that arrives with it.
The Simple Holodeck - 500L
The Simple Holodeck is ideal for people with space or prim restrictions and also contains six scenes. It is 15m x 20m x 10m high and you can add in some top quality scenes, most of which are very low in prims.
The Production Holodeck - 9,000L
Anything you build can be turned into a scene if you buy a Production Holodeck. You just build your scene normally, drop a script into each object and follow a simple drop and drag procedure.
The 2in1 Holodecks - Simple 750L/Production 11,500L
The 2in1 Holodeck combines the interior Holodeck, described above, with an exterior Holodeck. This means that the same dynamic transformation is possible on the outside of the building and its surrounds.
The 2in1 is also a way for builders of pre-fabs to incorporate Holodecks in their buildings. So they can sell people more than one of their designs to each customer. A touch of the menu will load a new exterior and landscaping. Builders who participate fully in the network will also be able to sell Holodecks, making handsome commissions.
The Retail Holodeck - Simple 1,500L/Production 13,500L
This system is a way for vendors to minimise land area and prims while maximizing merchandizing. Load your products in the Holodeck and let the client click on a photo on the wall to load a room full of furniture.
As the maker of the goods and the owner of the Holodeck, you can assign any Next Owner Permissions you wish.
Free Holodecks
There are three ways to get free holodecks.
1. The Demo
Anybody can get a free Demo Holodeck. What's more, they are Copy and Tran, so you can give the voucher that contains the Demo (in your inventory it will be called Free Demo Holodeck) to anyone you meet as a gift. To get a free Demo, visit Kenora, where you can see it working and get it from the vendor near where you land. Or, search SL Exchange for Demo Holodeck.
2. The Production
If you do nice content but haven't got 9000L for a Production Holodeck ...
# Join the Holodeck Group. Build a scene in Holodeck proportions; 15m wide x 20 deep x 10 high and get us to approve it (IM Biscuit Carroll)
# Make another 4 scenes and get us to approve them
# We will then give you a Production Holodeck in return for full rights to sell the scenes
3. Non-Profits
Approved non-profits (but not educational institutions) can access Production Holodecks at no cost if they use them for non-profit purposes. IM or email Biscuit Carroll for details.

Uses of the Holodeck

| Information Kiosks | These can now be scripted to revert to an introductory scene if avatars are absent for a fixed period. | |
| Merchandising | Retailers can sell their goods right off the Holodeck floor. Customers would use the menus to select the product category they're interested in, instead of having to walk or fly around. It also lets you display merchandise in different ways, for example,customers could look at all the beds, choose one they like and then rez a new scene full of matching bedroom furniture. | |
| Photographic and machinima scenes | Instantly change backdrops and or poseballs | |
| Rentals | A builder can buy a Production Holodeck, then create scenes and deploy them in Simple Holodecks that are rented out. You might also buy one of our scenes and use it multiple rentals. | |
| Portfolios | You can use the Holodeck to show off a building portfolio. Saves looking through inventory and the client can view content at their own pace. |
Making money from the Holodeck
1. You can sell us scenes to use in the Holodeck
You can build scenes and let us sell them for you. Once you own a Production Holodeck you can create your own scenes. Then, if we approve them for sale, we pay a commission of between 33% and 50% on scenes sold in our vendor network.
2. You can become a Reseller
Some content providers and partners are invited into the Reseller program. They can then sell Holodecks and other people's scenes in addition to their own.
